Attention Members - New Login procedure!

In order to facitilate better exchange between members we have setup individual logon ID's.

New Users - Please go to the 'Request Login Account' link at the top left of this page. You can request your own logon ID and password. Your request will be approved as quickly as possible.

Your new ID will enable you to use our new 'Forum' to exchange information with other parents about topics which are important to you and your children.

This is your PTA

This is your PTA! Our goal is to promote parent and school partnerships, to encourage parental involvement in school life. This is very important for a Secondary School like the ISH – most of our children travel to school independently. Therefore many of us have set foot in the school building once or twice per year at most.

This is one of the reasons why the PTA exists: to help you stay connected with the school, with teachers and equally importantly with other parents.

If you would like more information regarding your PTA, please do not hesitate to contact any of the PTA committee or alternatively drop a note into the school office for the attention of the PTA or email us

Please get involved!

How can you get connected? Attend one our events! Or better yet: get involved with your PTA! Volunteer to help with one of the social activities we have planned. Volunteer to be Class Rep. Or perhaps you would like to organize an event on your own and you require funding. So long as it fits within our Mission we would be more than glad to help.

The PTA provides an opportunity for everyone to work together towards a common goal and is open to all parents and teachers even if they only have a small amount of time available to get involved.

Here are some of the activities we have completed in the past or we have planned for the future:
•    November Thanksgiving Dinner for all parents, students and teachers
•    Annual Welcome Back to School BBQ
•    Support for Annual School Talent Show
•    Support for the purchase of new Sound System for School Musical, Theatrical and other events
•    Information Evening for parents on  Alcohol Abuse and Students
•    Support for Tanzania Charity Event
•    International Hilversum Fair and Sale

PTA and DMR

In a many International Schools the PTA has a social and a supervisory role for the school administration. This is somewhat different for the ISH PTA, because
a) Every school in Netherlands is obliged to have a DMR (Deelneemersmeddezeggenschapsraad or 'Works Council') composed of 2 teachers, 2 parents and 2 students. The DMR roled is legally defined by Dutch Law in the Wet Medezeggenschap op Scholen (WMS).
b) In order not to duplicate roles and responsibilities the ISH PTA has opted to confine its role to supporting parents and teachers and to leave issues relating to oversight of the administration of school to the DMR.

We have good relations with our DMR Parent Reps: Elise Wieringa and Maria Kranendonk - and we recommend parents who have concerns about the issues relating to the administration of the school to contact the DMR Parent Reps.

More about the PTA

The PTA is registered Association (Vereniging) and we are primarily funded by a €25 per family annual contribution and fund raising activities. Our board is elected at an Annual General Meeting which is open to all members and held in September. Members are all parents of students at the school and teachers. Committees are headed by interested parent volunteers.

My role in the PTA is to ensure that our objectives are aligned with our mission, and that we have the volunteers to complete our objectives. It is to build an infrastructure in which volunteers can feel free to lend their own skills and talents without an over commitment of time, and have fun doing so.

If you would like more information regarding your PTA, if would like to become a member, or if you have any suggestions or ideas about fund-raising (or where the money might be spent) please do not hesitate to contact any of the PTA committee or alternatively drop a note into the school office for the attention of the PTA.

Sincerely,
Peter Thomson
Chairman 2011/12
